Overview
The best way to describe Polar Turtles would be to say that it is a combination of billiard games such as pool or snooker and air hockey. Users glide their turtle across an iced up version of a pool table. Two modes of play allow for two human players to compete against one another on the same device or a single user to compete against the computer; both modes provide for a challenging game of strategy.
- Two modes of play
- Easy to use interface
- Pleasing game environment
Quality
Polar Turtles has a simple and easy to use interface making it ideal for those in the younger age range of the target audience. Some may require a little guidance at first, but then are able to play on their own.
While the interface is easy to use the movement of the turtles could use a little fine-tuning to make moving them smoother. Random hiccups in the movement of turtles caused a small amount of frustration for my little testers.
The design elements found in Polar Turtles are of good quality and make for an enjoyable game experience.
Education
This app is not being rated for Education.
Entertainment
Users not old enough to understand the object of the game will have fun sliding their turtles around the game table watching the turtles tuck themselves into their shells while in motion, then popping out indicating the next player’s turn. Those old enough to understand the strategy will find the game challenging at times. Regardless of which mode the user has chosen, the winner is determined on best out of three games.
Value
Priced at a little less than two dollars places this app at the high end of what one would consider a good value. Polar Turtles is a nice quality app that provides entertainment to a broad range of users; however, the app is lacking features one would expect of an app in that price range.
Child Friendliness
Polar Turtles appeals to a wide range of users and the simple interface makes it a good fit even for those at the younger end. The app does not contain in-app purchases or external links which many parents will consider when purchasing apps for their kids.
