App Info

Price: Free
AppStore User Rating:

Overview

Lingokids offers English lessons for young children on three levels (individual words, phrases and sentences) that cover over 3,000 words within the paid subscription version. Lessons are grouped by word function and by parts of speech and are conducted using simple interactive games.
Features include:
  • 5 free lessons to sample the program
  • Supplemental activities available with purchase of subscription
  • Adaptive technology creates a unique learning experience for each child
  • No prior knowledge of English necessary
  • Offline play and multiple student accounts available with subscription

Quality

Lingokids is a high quality app that will encourage young children to play with English words, phrases and sentences. It includes an array of different types of interactions, colorful animations, and engaging sound effects. Developers also included some simple suggestions to help parents make the most of the learning experience with their children.

Education

This app provides a wealth of leveling options to guide young players into the right activities. When the app first begins, users have the opportunity to choose the child’s age and level of experience with English. It would be nice if there were a way to access this screen later in case a parent wanted to change the level, but I could not find a way of doing so.
There are five lessons available in the free sample version of this app, with a total of twenty lessons currently available with the subscription. In addition, subscribers can see records of their child’s performance, download supplemental activities, and activate offline play for times when an internet connection is unavailable.
Each lesson presents a set of related words (such as items for personal care or foods). The words are read out loud, but the corresponding pictures are not highlighted. This seems to be a missed teaching opportunity, and could cause a good deal of frustration for beginning students as they attempt to play the games. The games present pictures of the words in context (personal care tools are in the bathroom, for example), and the narrator asks the student to interact with them in some fashion. In the clothing lesson, children are instructed to choose specific articles of clothing from the set and then hang them to dry or iron them.
Parents and teachers should be aware that the app focuses primarily on receptive language. Children who use it will not become proficient speakers of English, though they may well improve their ability to understand basic sentences in the language.

Entertainment

Young children are likely to enjoy the activities in this app. They are very relatable, and will seem very familiar to kids. The characters are funny and the animations and sound effects are engaging. The artwork is simple and bright, and will appeal even to young toddlers. There is a nice variety of types of interactions, but all are quite intuitive and developers have embedded clues such as pictoral directions and shaking items that should be touched.

Value

This app is free on the App Store, and is intended as a sample for the complete program. There are five lessons available for free, and a total of 20 lessons currently. The app indicates that an additional five lessons are “coming soon.” However, in order to see any of the additional features, such as the supplemental activities, the offline play feature, the record keeping, and so forth, users must sign up for the one month free trial. The app indicates that additional months will be billed at $4.99 per month, but during the sign up process, users discover that they are expected to pay $54 automatically at the end of the free period for a one year subscription. It was very unclear to me if there was a monthly payment option available, and the information within the app did not seem to match that provided in the description in the App Store, which indicates that the monthly fee is $9.99. This is quite confusing, so be sure you understand the terms of the subscription and cancellation policy before you commit.

Child Friendliness

There are a number of links that are visible to children, but that should be in a “parents only area,” such as upgrading to a paid subscription, supplementary activities, reports, and so forth. The links all seem to be protected with an effective parent gate, but it would be better if they were not visible to children at all.
  • NO 3rd party ads
  • YES in-app purchase (protected, but visible)
  • YES social media (protected, but visible)

Main 10 Ways to Keep Kids Active When They're Stuck Inside

Try not to let frosty or blustery climate give your children the indoor weariness soul. Here are 10 approaches to help them smolder off some vitality when stuck inside.

Want to come in?There are numerous things I adore about wintertime, yet what I don't relish are the apparently unlimited hours of being adhered inside because of awful climate. As much as we champion a decent expressions and-specialties extend around here, my children can just sit as yet sticking and sparkling for so much sooner than they simply need to move!

That is the point at which I break out my dependable traps for keeping my children dynamic inside. In the event that there's one thing I've adapted after six winters in the Northwest with children, its that it pays to have an arrangement. I've additionally discovered that "being dynamic" doesn't need to mean running and bouncing. Simply getting children up and moving goes far towards enhancing their manners.

Here are my main 10 courses for getting the kids' vitality out when they're stuck inside.

Yoga. There are such a variety of incredible approaches to get children included in yoga nowadays. From applications on your cell phone to child amicable cards showing essential stances, there are huge amounts of awesome items to help your kids get their Zen on. There are some incredible free alternatives, as well. One of our top picks is a YouTube show called Cosmic Yoga.

Twister. This is an oldie yet without a doubt a goodie in that its great, shabby fun and it doesn't take up an excess of room. This excellent amusement is ideal for keeping a few children dynamic in a little space.

Simon Says. Children dependably have a decent time playing this senseless diversion — and you can utilize it to blaze off vitality by joining loads of enormous developments including hopping, turning, creeping, adjusting and the sky is the limit from there.

Indoor Scavenger Hunt. Who says forager chases are only for the outside? Look at these 5 changed approaches to set up a forager chase — and after that go insane redoing it to your kids' advantage or what they're at present dealing with in school. (Sight word and math scrounger chases are a major hit around our home of late.)

Pandora Freeze Frame. This is a straight forward diversion I made up one blustery evening. Essentially turn on your most loved Pandora station and have your children move up a tempest. Stop the station now and again and have them solidify at whatever point the music stops. Once the curiosity of this wears off, you can give them a telephone and let them take photos of one another when solidified, or even transform the action into an out-dated round of a game of seat juggling.

Toys Made to Get the Wiggles Out. Consistently by and by web journal, I set up together a progression of occasion toy blessing aides. While looking into them a couple of years prior, I lurched onto an entire classification of indoor toys made to help children work off their vitality. Our top picks in this classification incorporate indoor trampolines, parity sheets and air bounce balls.

Tumbling. A couple of years back, I had the delight of co-facilitating a Facebook visit with Olympic Skier Jonny Moseley. When somebody asked him how he kept his children dynamic, he said he had an aerobatic mat that he conveyed out for his children to tumble and wrestle on at whatever point they were stuck inside. I thought the thought was ingenious to the point that I requested a mat for my children that night. It's one of the best buys I ever constructed!

Stronghold Building. There truly is nothing more fun than ripping off the bed sheets and sofa pads and working throughout the evening with your kin to make the most epic fortification ever.

Inflatable Play. Have you ever seen how unbelievably long your children can involve themselves basically by batting around a blow up they got at an eatery or specialist's office? I keep a stash of dollar-passageway blow ups in a drawer for when fretfulness strikes. Amplify the enjoyment by playing "inflatable badminton" with two or three paper plates taped to wooden spoons as rackets. Then again what about an inviting rivalry of blow up races?

Find the stowaway. As a last resort, a great session of find the stowaway will regularly get you through. You can make it additional diversion for greater children by giving them spotlights and making it as dull as could be expected under the circumstances ins

  • Interactive magic show puts kids in control
  • Intuitive control for all activities
  • Unique interactions foster language development
  • Interesting way to apply cause and effect

Quality

Bogga Magic is a high-quality app. Developers have really focused on making the app intuitive and easy to use. All of the features work as expected and are well-designed for the target audience. The artwork and sound effects are cute and fun, and the tasks that make the app work are perfect for very young children.

Education

This is a very low-key app that will delight young children while providing essential practice in reasoning, language, sequencing and a host of other readiness skills.  It’s a fun way to put your child in charge of learning through play. Players first get to dress the main character in their choice of colors, which is a great time to talk about and name colors as well. Next, they can assemble a magic wand to use in the show. While they work, be sure to talk about “top” and “bottom” and other descriptive words and phrases. Once the wand is ready, the show begins!

Your child can name the bear anything he or she wants, but for convenience’s sake, we will follow the designers’ lead and call him “Ted.” Ted takes center stage and young users can choose from an assortment of illusions by choosing options on the right of the screen. These are grouped by type, and your child will enjoy exploring each section to make Ted perform different types of tricks.  The tricks range from standard stage illusions like floating through a hoop or changing the content of boxes through very unusual feats that will astound and amaze little ones. Each is accompanied by appropriate oohs and aahs from the audience, as well as the occasional “Ta-dah!” from Ted. As the magic show goes on, have your young one describe what is happening in each trick, and speculate about how the trick was done. Be sure to use sequencing words like “first, next, and then,” position words, and descriptive words.

Ted also reacts when your child touches him. Most of the interactions are cute, but some sensitive children might be a bit offended when he passes a little gas!  Young users can also change Ted’s outfit color or try out a different type of magic wand by using the controls on the left hand side of the screen.

Entertainment

Magic is fascinating to nearly all age groups, and young children are generally no exception, especially when they are in charge of the show. It doesn’t really matter the magic is digital; the point is to use the action on the screen as a jumping off place for language and for learning. Developers also have included a link to a magical project that your children might well enjoy in real life, so check the parents’ section for details.  This app provides lots of control to empower children, which will enhance its play value for many usages, too.

Value

Bogga Magic is a good value, especially if your child is about to see or has recently seen a magician. Making that connection to real life will be invaluable! Even if no real magic acts are on the horizon, this app is a wonderful tool for encouraging those all important language skills. It’s vital that young children get a good command of how to describe what they see and experience, learn to relate events in sequence, and learn to tell about position in space using words like “under,” “above,” and “beside.”

Child Friendliness

Bogga Magic is very child-friendly. The app contains a parents’ section that is well-protected by an effective parent gate. Inside this section are outside links, social media, and ratings, as well as instructions to use the app.  The parents’ area contains some great information about how to make the most of the app, as well as information about a magic trick children can learn from the developers’ website, so it’s well worth a look. Children who play will just experience the app, and parents can rest assured that the kids are safe no matter what buttons they happen to touch.
